In the middle of new houses and commercial activities, in a place with a lot of traffic, a visually ancient portal stands out. It dates back to the 14th century and it is as old as the castle of Fermignano.

We are talking about the entrance of a very popular pizzeria, frequented by young people already in the afternoon, but actually it was the entrance of an ancient post office where the travelers used to rest during their journeys. This was a paid inn, while another door, the one in S. Antonio was the entrance of the lodging for the pilgrims. Evidently Fermignano was a place of passing through, mostly to reach Rome.

As a matter of fact, the door that was at the end of the castle indicated that specific direction and it was called “Porta Roma”.
